Problem of the Week

A new problem every Monday that challenges participants of all ages to think creatively and apply their math skills. Perfect for a weekly mental challenge.

There are two four-digit numbers that have the following unique properties:  The four-digit numbers have the digits arranged odd-even-odd-even; If you double either of the 4-digit numbers, all of the digits of the new numbers are even; and if you halve either of the 4-digit numbers, only the final digit of the newly formed four-digit numbers is even.   Find the smaller of these two four-digit numbers.
